Not being as comfortable with technology as many others, I feel somewhat apprehensive about participating in a PLN. However, I certainly see the benefits. I am very interested in learning from others' experiences. Even though I may be too busy to attend a class on a particular date, I can still have some of my concerns addressed by others who been in a similar situation. I can benefit from different perspectives.
The point that stood out from the comments I read was from Mrs. Peterson. She stated that using more technology is so important because kids are very comfortable with it, and we need to meet kids where they are. I certainly understand the need to work with students where they are academically, so they can be successful. If using more technology helps to achieve this, I need to overcome my discomfort.

I can relate to your feelings of apprehension about all the new technology out there. I too have had a steep learning curve over the last year and still have a lot to learn. But I'll be the first to tell you that it gets easier and a lot more fun as you go along! You've got plenty of support available so don't hesitate to ask if you need some help.

Technology is certainly a tool that our students use to learn and the toos they will need to be able to use effectively to be successful in their future. I agree with you that we need to meet kids where they are. I'm so excited that we are beginning to really practice what we preach and model life-long learning!
ReplyDeleteI can empathize with your feelings of discomfort, Aileen.. I feel the same way. Don't be discouraged, maybe we can help each other!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the apprehension, however I finding some fun in doing this. I think it is much easier for students because it has always been a part of their lives.
ReplyDeleteWow! I haven't read Mrs. Peterson's blog, but your comment regarding what she said, to meet kids where they are, is great! They are probably way more proficient at technology than we are and might learn from them! Plus, they will be more confident doing something they know and enjoy!
